Can AI softwares help monitor water treatment plants?

Researchers at the University of Waterloo have created an AI (artificial intelligence) software which is able to detect various types of cyanobacteria. If the technology would be implemented, monitoring water treatment plants could become easier and cheaper.

“According to Emelko and collaborator Alexander Wong, a systems design engineering professor at Waterloo, the AI system would provide an early warning of problems since testing could be done much more quickly and frequently.”
